DROPP (Distributors of Regional and Organic Produce & Products)
DROPP is a food hub, a department of The Great Basin Community Food Co-op. In order to facilitate the aggregation of local food into Reno’s downtown core, we host this website so that farmers, ranchers, and producers can post their products for sale. These items can be purchased by wholesale customers on a bi-weekly basis with the option of delivery for an additional fee. Our purpose is to help create and sustain a fair and just food system in Northern Nevada. We take great pride in telling the stories and promoting transparency around all of the products that we choose to sell on DROPP. Our local producers post information about their farming, ranching and handling practices so that anyone can learn about where their food or fiber comes from. Our main goal is to aggregate these quality goods from as close to our foodshed as possible and then redistribute them to those who are also in the business of feeding their customers seasonal products, lowering their carbon impact, and economically contributing to healthier and more sustainable agricultural practices.
What is a food hub?
As defined by the National Food Hub Collaboration, “a food hub is a business or organization that actively manages the aggregation, distribution, and marketing of source-identified food products primarily from local and regional producers in order to satisfy wholesale, retail, and institutional demand.”
To promote our local food system and serve as a sustainable cooperative model for access to wholesome food. Our food hub offers transparency for our food and its environmental, social, and economic impacts in order to help build a strong local food system that aligns with the goals and needs of growers, producers, and customers.
